Pace
e sicurezza, sviluppo sostenibile, diritti
umani e libertà fondamentali. Queste
parole chiave sono gli obiettivi che le Nazioni
Unite si pongono da 74 anni, da quando 51
nazioni (poi diventate 193, cioè
tutti gli stati indipendenti della Terra,
ndr) decisero autonomamente di firmare
il trattato che ha dato vita all’organizzazione
internazionale più importante di sempre.

Peacekeeping
- Le forze di pace delle Nazioni Unite
sono una forza composta da oltre 113.000
persone, tra forze di polizia e civili.
Creato da 125 paesi e attualmente al
servizio di 14 missioni in tutto il
mondo, sono impiegate per proteggere
e prendersi cura dei civili, garantire
il mantenimento del cessate il fuoco,
proteggere i diritti umani, le norme
di legge e sostenere una democrazia
libera ed equa. Lavorano instancabilmente
per assicurarsi anche che le voci delle
donne siano ascoltate e crescano nella
vita civile, militare e politica. |
La
Giornata delle Nazioni Unite 2019 segna il
74esimo anniversario dell'entrata in vigore
della Carta delle Nazioni Unite e celebra
tutto ciò che l'ONU rappresenta e che
ha raggiunto fin dalla sua istituzione nel
1945. Tutti
gli Stati membri delle Nazioni Unite contribuiscono
a finanziare la sua azione per contribuire
a perseguire i propri obiettivi. Oltre alla
pace mondiale, il suo ruolo è stato
quello di proteggere i diritti umani, promuovere
lo sviluppo sociale ed economico e fornire
assistenza in tutto il mondo in caso di carestie,
disastri naturali e conflitti armati.

coined by United States President Franklin D.
Roosevelt was first used in the Declaration
by United Nations of 1 January 1942, during
the Second World War, when representatives of
26 nations pledged their Governments to continue
fighting together against the Axis Powers. 24
October 1945. The United Nations officially
comes into existence. In 1945, representatives
of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the
United Nations Conference on International Organization
to draw up the United Nations Charter. Those
delegates deliberated on the basis of proposals
worked out by the representatives of China,
the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the
United States at Dumbarton Oaks, United States
in August-October 1944. The Charter was signed
on 26 June 1945 by the representatives of the
50 countries. Poland, which was not represented
at the Conference, signed it later and became
one of the original 51 Member States. |

The
United Nations officially came into existence on 24
October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by
China, France, the Soviet Union, the United
Kingdom, the United States and by a majority
of other signatories. United Nations Day is celebrated
